It has been a while since I’ve sent out my Observations. I been occupied working on a book which is now complete and at the printer. So, it’s time to get back to these shorter writings.
Thinking of observations I hope you do observe the things around you. There are many interesting aspects in life and things to learn. When I have our grandkids in the car I’m always trying to get them to look outside at things we pass. One time when I had our own kids in the back of a VW Vanagon on a trip through Wisconsin returning from a youth conference, I treated them to a half hour message on the shape of barn roofs. I think they were happy to get back to their games and comics! Even so, there are a lot of interesting things beyond our windows. Several weeks ago one of our granddaughters, who is 10 and good with art, came over after church. I lent her my Kodak camera and we took a walk in the neighborhood. I asked her to look at things, particularly flowers, that interested her. She found some beautiful ones, and even with a bumblebee getting its lunch. We were able to crop the pictures and print them on the printer.
But on a somewhat more serious note, one of the things I’ve gotten into the habit of doing is praying for people I see. Especially when I’m riding through town just after school is out. I will pray for young people walking home, or others that might be walking along. I don’t know them, but they are ones who God created. They need His care, strength, and guidance just as I do, and especially that all our hearts may be opened to our Lord.
Part of our life with the Lord is observing and enjoying the things He has made. Part of our evangelism is silently praying for others, even ones we do not know. And it is all right outside of our windows.
God’s abundant blessings dear friends,
Pastor Irv
